Like all environmentally concerned entities we like to keep track of things in the “green industry”. One of our customers, GreenQloud, has been receiving attention for their innovative ideas and product offerings (see their homepage for details).
One bit of news caught our interest and set our minds to thinking. What exactly can these two wildly different industries possibly have in common, data centres and film producers? Well, perhaps a little graph can help explain (with kind permission from the Film in Iceland Project).
What this graph shows is the extraordinary lenght of daylight to be had in Iceland. Quite a few film producers and directors have discovered this fact and taken advantage of the unique landscape and lighting conditions available on this friendly island in the North. In other words, what both the data centre industry and the film industry enjoy are the benefits provided by Icelandic nature. Lots and lots of light, on one hand, and 100% green and renewable energy sources on the other.
Combine this with robust infrastructure, technical expertise, professional work ethics and a generally friendly and welcoming society and you have a very nice recipe for either hosting your data or making movies.
Your choice!
